Congrats! You've found our Creative Brief!

We've been publishing greetings cards for over 30 years and are the UK's no.1 humour publisher.
We supply better-known high street stores and supermarkets such as Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Clinton's and WHSmith to name a few, as well as lots of independent stores.

This brief will tell you a little bit about Emotional Rescue, how we work and how to submit ideas/artwork to us. If you have any questions once you have read through this brief, please do not hesitate to contact the Creative Team.

Here's a little about some of our hilarious ranges you can write for...

Our ranges

On-The-Ceiling

The instantly recognisable range sets the standard for retro humour and remains the consumers' number one choice. Its iconic black and white retro presentation, 'signature' font style, combined with strong, contemporary humour, has ensured this popular brand has not only stood the test of time but continues to go from strength to strength.

Face Ache

A more traditional-looking humour card. Face Ache continues to have everyone giggling with strong, commercial humour and highly appropriate subject matter. The range consists of page 3 punchlines, jokes, poems and tall tales.

Virtual Safari

Virtual Safari takes a walk on the wild side of humour. The strength of this range is a combination of enhanced animal images with satirical jokes, pulling animals into the human world, it literally has everyone roarrrrring!

Norbert & Val

Cheeky and fun based around Norbert, Val and their family. Everyday life with topical, commercial jokes adds to the success of this range.

Spoken In Jest

This text-driven range is full of funny quotes, slogans about friendship, ageing, drinking, hobbies...and anything else we all relate to. It's straight-talking with a mix of bright colours making it a real fav with our customers.

Click, Like & Share

A contemporary humour range full of quirky and topical statements with striking images of pets gives this hilarious range a cheeky, fun and big personality. Humour to leave you howling!

Sorted

The strength of this range is a combination of its topical, commercial and appropriate subject matter mixed together with simple, but punchy illustrations. This trendy range is a big hit!

Rebellion

Famous and popular phrases we have all used or heard of are turned upside down with hilarious hand-written commercial/topical slurs making Rebellion one to watch out for. It's trendy and a fun range to work with. Let's see your rebellious side!

Writing jokes and submitting artwork

Over the past 30 years, we have published a vast amount of product. Test! Test! Test! We test all of our product before they go on general release. We, therefore, need squillions and gazillions of new ideas and material on a daily basis!

What sort of jokes do we buy?

We specialise in 'humour' and 'words' so we try to publish cards that are both contemporary and topical, for instance a recent trend or a saying, or an item on the market, political situation etc. Not forgetting good old jokes about getting OLDER and enjoying a DRINK, etc.

Although some topics and language used on our cards may be considered strong, we would not consider or want to publish material that is overtly sexually prejudiced, homophobic or racist. We would not publish material which refers to sensitive subjects such as child abuse, incest or disabilities.

If we're talking rude cards, we can adapt any ideas that include unsuitable words to make them more commercial - we love a good *#@! word, but unfortunately, our trade customers do not! So, in other words, you can use swear words and where it's appropriate, we will change them. However, if the swear word is at the heart of the joke, you may have to consider re-writing it.

We endeavour to cater for all tastes. As we are featured on the high street, supermarkets and online, we have to bear in mind their stricter guidelines in terms of acceptable product and work out a balance of stronger vs not so strong titles accordingly.

I want to send in some artwork for consideration or a style sheet of my latest works.

We always like to keep our ranges like Face Ache looking fabulous and fresh! Sprucing here and there means we're always considering artwork styles, especially for new ranges. We LOVE seeing new range concepts, whether they be characters, text, or photographic - we're open to anything!

If you would like to send us some artwork variations on a style sheet, we will take a peek and keep them on file.

Submissions and payment

Where do I send my ideas, jokes and artwork to?

We ask you to kindly email your submissions in a PDF format which we can print and read out effortlessly (remember we have squillions of these to read daily!) to the Creative Team at ideas@erescue.co.uk

We want to make sure we can respond to everyone, so please make sure you include your contact details in every submission including the date so we have a time stamp. We should respond to you within 3 weeks.

PLEASE only send us original material. All submissions must be your original content and not in any way lifted from someone else’s idea/copyright. We do not accept any material that may infringe copyright and we do our best to check this before purchase.

Did someone mention £££?

Once the Creative Team have read, squiggled and diddled with your submissions, we will contact you via email, whether we purchase your idea/s or not and we will give you feedback, where appropriate.

Should we go crazy and purchase one or more of your ideas, we will pay £150 per idea chosen! Not only that, one of our tech bods will immediately and safely pay direct into your bank account (we will contact you to get these details, should you be successful).

What if I need to get in touch?
